What temperatures are possible with a thermostat valve?
Quick Answer: A thermostat valve always blends hot and cold water, so it can’t provide pure cold like a pressure balance valve. Expect shower temperatures between ~68 °F and ~120 °F (20–49 °C) under normal supply conditions. In some cases, the cartridge can be adjusted to allow a slightly higher maximum hot water temperature—contact our customer service team for guidance specific to your valve.
Incoming Water Temperatures (Factory Test Conditions)
- Cold water supply: ~57 °F (14 °C)
- Hot water supply: ~158 °F (70 °C)
These are the reference supply conditions used by our factory when testing.
Mixed Water Temperature Range
- Lowest mixed water temperature: below 68 °F (20 °C)
- Highest mixed water temperature: ~116–120 °F (47–49 °C)
Because the thermostat is always blending hot and cold, the water temperature will not go down to the full cold supply (57 °F) nor up to the full hot supply (158 °F). Instead, it will stay within this practical mixed range. In some cases, the cartridge can be adjusted to increase the maximum hot water temperature. Please reach out to our customer service team for detailed guidance based on your specific valve.
Key Takeaways
- A thermostat valve cannot produce pure cold water the way a pressure balance valve can.
- Expect shower water to stay between ~68 °F and ~120 °F, depending on your incoming hot and cold supplies.
- The cartridge may be adjustable to increase the maximum hot setting—contact customer service for instructions tailored to your valve.
